Just a fifteen minute walk from my office, my new apartment was also located near various stores, restaurants and a park. I thanked my gracious temporary hosts with a gift and card and hauled my two big suitcases to my home-to-be on the February 1st. While I was nervous to start living with someone new, I was really looking forward to fully unpacking my bags and hanging art on the wall so I could start to call this new place home.
Finally, with sheets on my bed and my bags unpacked, I began looking for ways to develop a routine. Have you ever moved to a new home, city, state or country? If so, you probably know that moving to a new place can be stressful because there is so much change. One way to help lessen the stress is to engage in activities that you like to form a routine. For example, my regular routine, no matter where I am, usually consists of making music, going to the gym, and doing yoga and cooking, so I started looking for ways to do these things. Almost immediately, I discovered a number of gyms and yoga studios near my apartment, and I found a program that would let me attend classes at both!
I’ve also always loved to dance, and it comes rather naturally to me. In fact, dancing salsa and bachata has been a way for me to connect with people when I’ve traveled to Latin America in the past. However, I have never been able to take formal classes. Just five minutes from my new apartment, though, I discovered a dance studio. One day, I went with a friend to try it out and was instantly hooked. We ended up not staying for one but two classes that night! After class, sweaty but energized, the students and teacher gathered outside the dance studio to chat.
