How do Germans Prefer their Transportation?

Introduction:

In the United States, I usually drive my car everywhere except on campus, where I walk or take the bus. Being in Germany, I cannot drive a car, so I have learned to rely on walking and buses alone. I have become accustomed to walking almost six miles every day! Germans love to walk everywhere, no matter the distance. Being here over two months, I can honestly say that walking is much easier than relying on buses, even if that means I have to walk an hour!

How do people get around?:

In Marburg, people do still drive cars, and I see plenty of people driving everyday. For students and some others, walking, buses and bikes are the main way to get places. The city has a bike rental situation were you download an app and can unlock a bike to use free of charge for the first hour every day! It's really nice to have, but unfortunately I cannot use it because you need a German phone number. Instead, I like to walk or take the bus. The buses are very accessible here and quite long. Sometimes the times for buses are not convenient, so I end up walking. A walk for me to classes is anywhere between 20 and 50 minutes. It goes by pretty fast once you start walking, though, especially with the beautiful views. The only downside to my walks is that sometimes I have to walk up a steep hill, which is very tiring.
