Traveler Bio

Hi there! My name is Isabelle (but in Timor Leste everyone calls me Isa). I am from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Growing up in Massachusetts, I loved spending long summer days at the beach, and dark winter nights reading by the fireplace. I also love animals and have always had a dog. Right now, I have a golden retriever named Mac who is staying home with my mom while I travel. For college, I left home and went to West Point, which is the United States Military Academy, for two years. While I was there, I studied Middle Eastern Studies and Persian Language.

After two years, I transferred to the University of Maryland and got my bachelor's degree in Persian Studies. I have always loved learning about new languages and cultures, and have been very interested in international relations, so after graduating college, I decided to join the Peace Corps! Now I am a Peace Corps volunteer in Timor Leste and I teach English to students from 7th to 12th grade. One of my favorite parts of being a volunteer is learning about Timorese culture and sharing American culture with the local people. I am so excited that now I get to share what I have learned with students in the U.S.!

Want to learn how to be a Peace Corps Volunteer like me? The Peace Corps is an international service network of volunteers, community members, host country partners, and staff who are driven by the agency’s mission of world peace and friendship. At the invitation of governments around the world, Peace Corps Volunteers work alongside community members on locally-prioritized projects. Learn how you can #ServeBoldy with the Peace Corps.
