Living in Timor Leste

Entering Maubara on the Main Road at sunset (Can you tell which direction Maubara is?)
Although we are located along the water, Maubara is at the base of several mountains; as you head away from the beach, you have no choice but to head up
Church is a very important part of most Timorese people’s lives. Although we have a church building, weekly services are held outside to accommodate the large number of attendees
The fort is in the center of Maubara on the main road; it was originally built by the Dutch when they came to the Island of Timor, then was taken over by the Portuguese when they colonized the Eastern side of the Island (Timor Leste means East Timor)
Inside of the fort, there is now a restaurant, and you can walk around and see the historic cannons and walls
One of the cannons still left inside the fort
We have one cafe in Maubara, called the Tasi Cafe, which overlooks the water; it costs $1 for a cup of coffee and $2 for fresh juice
The beach is a very important part of Maubara; when people think of Maubara, they associate our town with the ocean and the fort
