This field note is from the point of view of Ana. She is in the sixth grade at a school here in Australia. The pictures I included are from when she showed me around her hometown of Brisbane, which is not too far from Sydney. I hope you enjoy reading her answers as much as I did.
For breakfast, I normally eat some fruits, like a banana or an apple, with a yogurt. Occasionally, when I’m really hungry I’ll make myself some toast with Nutella. When I was younger my normal breakfast would be Weet-Bix in milk with honey on top. Weet-Bix is whole grain wheat that is shaped into a bar. When Weet-Bix is mixed with milk it turns into a soft cereal. By adding honey, it makes the Weet-Bix sweeter.
For school lunch, I bring in wraps or I get food from our school tuck-shop. Most students in my school bring sandwiches and wraps or buy food from the tuck-shop. Our school tuck-shop has food like fruit slices, pasta, toasties, vegemite sandwiches and rolls, meat-pies, sausage-rolls, burgers, fish fingers and chicken nuggets.
For dinner, my family would normally eat a dish with rice. Most Australian families have barbecue, steak or meat-pies and sausage-rolls for dinner. Almost every house in Australia has a barbecue. Even the local parks have a barbecue for everyone to use.
