By visiting them, I had the opportunity to gain insight into the Roman Empire and Ottoman history in Um Qais; learn about the Muslim fortress in Ajloun built to defend against crusaders; and Roman history and architecture in Jerash. All of these cities made me further my appreciation for history and the preservation of important structures that allow us to continue to have a glimpse into life in the past.
