In this country, they use kilometers instead of miles. I have traveled approximately 90 kilometers, which is 56 miles throughout this week!
I traveled approximately 241 kilmoeters, which is roughly 150 miles since I have been here.
I travel using a khombi and a taxi around Gaborone. A khombi is a van that can seat up to 16 people. Essentially, the khombi acts as a bus system, there are certain routes each khombi takes and certain stops. To ride a khombi to your next destination, it cost 4 pula (only 40 cents in the U.S.!). A taxi takes you along popular routes and those cost five pula. If you're trying to get to an exact destination then you take a cab which cost around 30-80 pula. How much is that in U.S. dollars?
This week I visited the Ministry of Public Health Headquarters in Botswana. It was really cool to see how this country tackles its health issues on a national level. Some health issues that Botswana is focusing on are malaria, diarrhea, and dental care.
