Kid's Written Interview

Introduction:

Hello everyone, recently I had the pleasure of interviewing two young students who I met through my college's host family program. For privacy reasons I refer to them as Y and M. One of them is in highschool, and the other is in Junior highschool. During my time in Japan, I've become quite close to my host family and often return to their house to make food or even just to practice English and Japanese together.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

Breakfast:

Y: I usually eat rice and miso soup, or Fried rice.

M: For breakfast, rice, baked salmon, miso soup, natto (fermented soybeans), and Japanese pickles.

Lunch:

Y: Usually, I eat school lunch.

M: The same.

Dinner:

Y: Usually, I eat rice, miso soup, and fish.

M: Kiriboushi Daikon (dried daikon radish)

What is your house like?:

Y: Old, Japanese house. With tatami floors, and low tables. We sit on the floor on a zabuton. (A floor cushion)

The house is two stories tall.

What chores do you have at home?:

M: Washing dishes.

Y: Sometimes okame (making rice).

M: Cleaning my room.

Y: Usually, mom does chores at home. In Japanese families, mom usually does housework.
