My job in Spain is teaching English to elementary school students. More specifically, I work with students ages 3-7 in infantil (pre-K) and primaria (elementary) classrooms. Although I'm sometimes in the classroom with another English teacher, in a few of my classes my job is to assist the full-teacher as they work on subjects like art or language arts. I just do it in English while they work in Spanish.

The school day here lasts from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. I usually get to school a few minutes before the students do and wait on the patio (play area) until the students are let in. Everyone has to go through these big, green gates in the morning, and during the school day the gates stay locked. That means that people can't come into the school without permission, but the students also can't leave during the day.

Throughout the day, everyone seems to always be moving around. The school day is separated into five, 55-minute blocks, plus a half hour of recreo (recess) in the middle of the day. This may sound like something you're familiar with from your school, but something different about Spanish school is that students (and sometimes teachers) are rarely in the same classroom from block to block.
