Hei Hei! My name is Jamie, and I'm going to be your traveler buddy this year. I'm 22 years old, and originally from Medfield, Massachusetts. I've always loved the outdoors, especially in winter. I grew up playing ice hockey, skiing, and getting outside whenever I could. That being said, you can often find me curled up in a comfy chair reading a good book. In May, I graduated from Bates College right down the road! While at Bates, I majored in Earth and Climate Sciences, where I studied topics such as rocks, minerals, soils, glaciers, and more. I fell in love with the research process, and tried to get involved in as much fieldwork as I could.
This passion led me to apply for a Fulbright Research Grant to Norway. While I'm in Norway, I'll be helping with several projects studying greenhouse gas emissions from glacial and permafrost landscapes. I spent the summer in Svalbard (a Norwegian Island close to the North Pole) doing field work related to my project, then will spend the rest of the year in Tromsø (on the mainland of Norway) doing lab work and data analysis. Both Svalbard and Tromsø are in the Arctic, and I am very excited to explore this harsh but gorgeous environment. I can't wait to share my journey with you all, and I'm looking forward to hearing about your adventures in first grade!
