The most interesting place I visited this week was the U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong. As a Gilman Scholar, I was invited to attend a special event where I met other Gilman Scholars and a consular officer. It was exciting to hear about the different places people were studying and the experiences they were having around the world.
I enjoyed talking with other students, learning about their academic journeys and sharing my own experiences of studying abroad in Hong Kong. It was inspiring to meet people from different backgrounds who all share a passion for learning, travel and cultural exchange.
Remember when I mentioned the Octopus Card, which I use to get around Hong Kong? I am currently applying for a Student Octopus Card, which gives students discounted fares and can cut transportation costs by about half. The application process has been a little challenging so far, but I am hoping to get it approved soon.
Using public transportation is a big part of daily life in Hong Kong, so having a Student Octopus Card can save a lot of money over time. If any of you ever decide to study in Hong Kong, my advice would be to apply for the Student Octopus Card as soon as possible!
