My name is Jeffrey Tarrasch and I am 26 years old. I come from Los Altos, California, a sleepy little suburb near San Francisco. I lived in the Bay Area for 18 years before moving to Los Angeles to study chemistry at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA; Go Bruins!). After graduating, I moved to Chicago, Illinois where I taught high school chemistry and biology before I decided to move yet again. I applied for a Fulbright grant in August of 2017, received it in April 2018, and moved to Madrid, Spain in September 2018.
I've spent the past four months here in Spain working as an English teacher. In my off time, I take Spanish classes, play sports and explore the city and country with friends. Spain is a wonderful country with a rich culture that always amazes me. The language is gorgeous (although I need a lot of practice) and the people are welcoming and warm.
I hope to learn as much as possible in my time here in order to bring language and communications skills back to the U.S. with me. Further, I hope that by sharing my journey with you, you can get a taste for international travel and deepen your interest in other cultures. The Spaniards have a saying: "Las fronteras de mi lengua son las fronteras de mi mundo." This translates to: "The borders of my language are the borders of my world." I encourage you to embrace this mentality and try to expand your horizons as much as possible!
