I believe that success is a combination of both hard work and luck. Throughout my life, I have worked incredibly hard and experienced immense luck. The past two months of my study abroad experience have been exciting, eye-opening and relaxing. For the first time in a long time, I am able to learn for the sake of learning, explore at my own pace and spend time reflecting on current and past events. All of the effort I put in to get here has been more than worth it.
Leaving home for five months is daunting. I came to Madrid not knowing a single person, but I have since made a home out of my new city. When you approach people with kindness and without judgment, you will make friends before you know it. Of course, as with any situation in life, there is not always sunshine. The separation of time and distance can make you feel as if the people you love the most are moving on without you. Even seeing a simple photo of your friends eating out together can make you feel as if you are missing out. When I feel this way, I always remind myself of how lucky I am to be in the position I am in. The luxury to travel the world and to study in a completely new environment is just that, a luxury. I only have a limited time to spend in Madrid, and I know that everything I left at home will be there when I return.
