I was a part of a great program called ESTO which welcomes foreigners to come to Toledo and take courses at a local university. Within that program, they give you tours, help you meet locals and make sure that you have a great experience in Toledo overall.
I learned about the need to immerse oneself in any culture to really grasp the language and broaden one's perspective. I am so glad that I went out of my comfort zone and took a risk to live in a new community.
The locals in Toledo and at the University see the importance of investing in youth education and want to do their part to help those coming from overseas to feel welcome.
It was, however, due to COVID, I am not quite sure how the program is holding up due to new travel restrictions. I hope that soon this study abroad program can be prosperous again.
