Toledo is surrounded by a lot of natural landscapes. The buildings in the downtown area called El Casco (where I lived) are really tall and narrow, which makes it easy to get lost. Also, it is very common for multiple businesses, apartments and franchises to be together in one building, each with its own separate spaces within.
Since a lot of the buildings and franchises are close to one another, I think that it helps build a strong community because everyone knows each other since they are living and working so close together.
You can always count on a neighbor for a helping hand. It might not be your next-door neighbor, but at least there is always someone nearby to help. For me as an exchange student, it gave me a sense of security and community in this close-knit neighborhood.
