The Animals in China's "Backyard"

Introduction:

The Tibetan Plateau of China is an enormous landscape with high mountains, valleys, and seemingly endless terrain. The Tibetan Plateau is at a high elevation, with harsh winds and cold weather. However, it's also one of the most beautiful places on Earth with its amazing mountain peaks, glaciers, and river systems. Because the environment of the Tibetan Plateau is so unique, so are the animals that live there! My name is Charlotte, and my trips to the Tibetan Plateau almost always include sightings of amazing species that I've never seen. I want to share some of my favorites: the chukar partridge, Himalayan vulture, blue sheep, bearded vulture, steppe eagle, dog, chiru, yak, red fox, and Tibetan fox!

What does this creature or plant look like?:

There are common features to the animals that live here on the Tibetan Plateau. For example, all the mammals have very thick, dense fur to protect them from the cold climate. Some of the birds, like the Himalayan and bearded vultures, are very large in size while species like the chukar partiridge are small. Yak are very large and commonly kept by herders. Similarly, most of the dogs found here are large.
