Spain: A Mountainous Country

Introduction:

Surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the landscape of Spain is wonderfully varied. The country’s environment from vast mountain landscapes to sandy beaches allows for a broad range of biodiversity and nature to thrive.

What makes this environment special or different?:

Due to its geographic location, Spain epitomizes natural diversity from lush green forests, serene valleys, massive waterfalls and endless sandy beaches. The most distinctive environmental feature of Spain is its mountains. The rugged landscape restricts mass urban development and protects the flora and fauna. Additionally, an abundance of rivers flow across the country; Zaragoza is divided by the Ebro River which stretches across 578 miles!

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

The Catalan city, Barcelona, is described as an urban jungle with a seaside view. It was not until I started looking for houses that I realized that two-thirds of the Spanish population live in flats (apartments). For individuals who prefer to live in the city center, they must live in a flat because the houses are located closer to the mountains and hills; not to mention, they are very expensive because the land is limited. Considering not all flats include outdoor spaces, many have balconies.
