The Future of Belize! Meet Justin, Santiago, Britney, and Geraldine

What is your house like?:

All four students live in one-story cement houses, and they all have coconut and other fruit trees in their yards.

What chores do you have at home?:

Their chores vary, but all of them help at a lot at home. Justin has to make his bed every morning and sweep the outside porch and living area. Santiago has similar chores, but has to start them after work. He goes to work everyday, helping his grandpa do security, until 5 a.m. or 6 a.m. When he comes home from work he starts sweeping, makes his bed, eats breakfast, and heads to school.

For chores, Britney cleans the kitchen, sweeps, and washes her clothes. Geraldine does the dishes, sweeps, and washes her clothes, too. All have similar chores, and all four are very helpful around the house.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Justin and Santiago's dads both work in construction. However, Santiago's dad leaves the village for a few days at a time to work on construction sites in nearby villages and towns. Their moms are both stay-at-home moms, taking care of the kids and doing all the work around the house.

Geraldine's dad does security, similar to Santiago's grandpa, and her mom is a chef. She cooks up all kinds of good food! Britney's mom works in tourism, but she works all the way in Iceland. She sells goods to tourists and visits home as much as she can.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts everyday at 8:30 a.m., however, most kids arrive around 8 a.m. to get food and see their friends before classes. Everyday there is break from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. for lunch.
