Navigating Belize Like a Local!

Introduction:

Some of the most reliable ways to get around in Belize is the bus system, made up of many different bus companies, which all operate on their own schedules to varied destinations. It took some time to learn how to navigate at first, but now I feel like I'm a bus professional!

How do people get around?:

People in Belize get around in many different ways. Some of the most common methods of transportation are motorcycles and cars. There are a lot more motorcycles here than in Chicago because they are able to be ridden year round. For people who don't have cars or motorcycles, they get around is using the bus system. The buses here can get you to every major city in Belize, going from all the way south to all the way north in just ten hours with two different buses. The bus system here is cheap, and for the most part reliable. They use both retired school buses and coach buses--it just depends on which company you are using. I take the James Bus Line because that is the one that navigates the South of Belize.

There are also many islands and penninsulas in Belize that are only accessible by water taxi. A water taxi is just a boat used for transporting people and goods across the water. It is my favorite form of travel here. While it is a little more expensive, because there isn't other options, being on the Carribean Sea makes up for it!
