Hello everyone, at the time of writing this, I have been in Spain for about 2 and a half months. As you know already, my name is John and I grew up in Newport, RI most of my life. I went to to Carey School and Underwood Elementary before Pell School opened, which many of you may have attended. I have also probably had a lot of the same teachers you have had while in school, including Mrs. Turner. I was the quiet student in the front of the class who always had their work in on time and always followed instructions. (Go along with it, Mrs. Turner!) While at Rogers, I was on the football and track teams. Was I any good? No, but I did enjoy myself and had great times with friends.
Outside of this, I would hang out with friends and worked at a small hotel called the Bay Willows Inn, that used to be where the Neon gas station. Through this, I worked my way up through other hotels, with the final one before coming to Spain being the Hammetts Hotel in downtown Newport. While working, and during my senior year at Rogers when the Covid lockdown happened, I started a business reselling shoes. This helped me stay busy during a time when there wasn’t much to do. With this timing, I also unfortunately did not get a traditional graduation, but the school did what it could do to the best of its ability.
When making my college decision I knew I wanted to stay close to home.
