Bonjour les amis (hi friends)! My name is Jonathan, and I lived on Washington Island from the age of one until I was eighteen; I was a student at the high school and perhaps even sat in some of the same chairs as the ones you’re sitting in now. I played basketball, ran cross country, and was even president of the Student Council for one year. When I was three my mom signed me up for piano lessons with Diane Kahlscheuer, which I kept taking even as I got older; eventually, I decided I wanted to be a serious musician in high school, college and after. For my senior year of high school, I went to the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, a school specifically for musicians and artists. Then I went to Lawrence University in Appleton, WI where I graduated last June with majors in piano and French.
Currently, I am living for a year in Paris where I am studying for a graduate diploma in piano at the École normale de musique de Paris-Alfred Cortot (which is one of several music schools here), and have the immense good fortune of being supported by a Fulbright grant. When I’m not busy practicing I love going to museums and exploring parts of Paris and the surrounding area that I hadn’t seen before. I’m learning all about French music, culture, and art, and I’m excited to share my discoveries with you – c’est parti (and we’re off)!
