She also showed me the first day how to take the public transportation from her house, which was far away from my school. I would literally have been lost without her. We went to the Rabat oudayas, which is a beautiful part of the old medina (a walled city that is a thousand years old!) overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. She also took me to her favorite Syrian restaurant, "Yamal Acham", and it was amazing.

Without her showing me around and the family welcoming me, I would have felt so uncomfortable in Rabat. I learned so much from them about Moroccan culture and language and about the city of Rabat. Unfortunately Rabat is about five hours away from Tetouan, so I don’t get to go back very often. But by the time I got to Tetouan, I felt ready to navigate a Moroccan city on my own, and to live with my new host family in Tetouan. I am still in touch with my host family through Chaimae in Rabat and hope to see them again before my time in Morocco is over!
