Moien and Äddi (goodbye) everyone! It seems that our time connecting through the wonderful Reach the World program is coming to an end. However, this does not mean that your journey with travel—or my journey with travel—is over!
When I was in high school, I remember the fields of Kingfisher feeling so large; simultaneously, the world outside of Kingfisher, beyond Oklahoma itself, felt so frightening. Traveling the world—a world that was filled with languages I did not speak, cultures and values so different from my own, and with people I did not know—seemed like a titanic task. After all, why leave Oklahoma when you know the parts of it you like?
While scary, it is necessary to get out of your comfort zone. The truth is that there may be parts of the world that you like just as much or even more than Oklahoma. Never leaving Kingfisher would be like only eating pizza for your entire life… sure, pizza is good, but there’s also tacos, burgers, spaghetti, caesar salad, chocolate cake, turkey sandwiches, ramen noodles, and so much more to discover!
