Today, I want to tell you about one of my favorite creatures in Malaysia! These are monkeys, and they live in my town and in towns in many other states in this country.
The most common breed of monkey in Malaysia is called the macaque. They are medium-sized monkeys that have long faces. When they are babies, macaques are about the size of a plastic water bottle.
I felt happy because it was my first time seeing monkeys in the wild. The monkeys, especially their babies, are very cute. If you're lucky, you might see a baby monkey holding onto the belly of its mother as she walks.
Monkeys live throughout Malaysia. In my town, they live in the forest near my school. When monkeys cannot find food in the forest, they rummage through the school dumpster to look for scraps of food.
The monkeys feed on vegetation in the jungle. They usually eat seeds, fruits and plants, but if a monkey is very hungry it will try to eat food that humans are carrying. In tourist areas, monkeys jump on people and grab their plastic bags to look for food.
