Hi everybody! My name is Julia MacDonald, and this February, I'll be moving to Tasmania, Australia! Tasmania is an island off the coast of Australia. If you look at a globe, you’ll find Tasmania way down at the bottom of the world near icy Antarctica. I decided to move to Tasmania to learn about penguins in their natural habitat. While I’m there, I’ll be studying marine science, the science of the ocean, and everything that lives in it. My favorite subject in school was science, especially biology, so I decided to study biology when I went to college.
Biology is the science of living things. When you study biology, you can study anything that is alive, like plants, animals, bacteria, and you! My favorite living thing to study is penguins. I like penguins because they are very skillful little creatures and are full of personality. At the New England Aquarium, I've been helping the aquarium staff feed and train the African and Southern Rockhopper penguins that live there. When I'm in Tasmania, I'm going to continue learning about penguins and the oceans where they live. I can’t wait to experience all the new foods, animals, and places I’ll see in Tasmania.
