The pop culture among youth in Denmark isn’t too far off from the culture in the United States. There is a large presence of social media usage, such as TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook, among youths that leads to trends from the U.S. crossing over. However, there is still a twist as Danish values come into play. In Denmark, there is a flat hierarchy built with mutual trust and respect. Essentially, everyone is expected to respect others as equal regardless of their position or age and help each other grow rather than compete. Even if this may appear as being reserved, Danish people are always happy to help and have a fun time!
Pop Culture & Trends:
One prominent part of Danish pop culture is music. There are countless venues throughout Copenhagen that feature Danish and international artists all year round. There are also a number of music festivals that happen every year that bring people across the country and other parts of the world together. I have only attended one concert at a venue just a ten-minute walk down the road from me! It was an Argentine experimental rap and hip-hop duo that I listened to prior to coming to Copenhagen, so, needless to say, I was super excited to see them.
