Just in Time for Cherry Blossom Season

Introduction:

When I first came to South Korea, it was in the winter, and all the plants and trees were dry and dead. It was not too pretty to look at. All the natives were very excited about spring, but I wasn't too sure why. Yes, the city will be green again with new leaves on the trees, but that was not why everyone was excited. It was because of the cherry blossoms! Instead of just green, the city is covered in small pink and white petals. I was not expecting to see so many flowers all over the city. Usually, I can only see flowers like this at a park or in a garden, but here, they are everywhere. Cherry blossoms have a few different names. In English, people call them cherry blossom or flowering cherry. In Japanese, they are often called sakura. In Korean, they are called beotkkot (but-kot). In South Korea, the native cherry tree is the King cherry, called wangbeotnamu (wang-but-namoo).

Do you like Starbucks? Starbucks in South Korea has a special Cherry Blossom Latte that I heard is very sweet and good.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

Cherry blossoms are flowers that grow on cherry trees in spring. Not only in South Korea, but all over the world. Even in the U.S! To some people, they can look like little fluffy stars or soft cotton candy all over tree branches.
