Some are white, light pink and darker pink. When a tree is blooming, it can look like it is wearing a giant flower cloud. As the petals fall, it looks like pink snow on the ground.
When I first saw them, they just appeared on one tree on my university's campus. I was surprised to see it because it was still very cloudy and cold outside. I did not think they were cherry blossoms at first because I was not expecting them to grow in South Korea. Then, suddenly one day, they were everywhere. All the trees grew flowers, almost as if it happened overnight. I was very excited to see them. It was my first time seeing so many petals floating in the air. It looked like pink snow. It was so beautiful to see the city come to life with them.
Cherry Blossoms grow in many places in South Korea. In the spring, it could look like it grows everywhere. You can see them along streets, near schools, on busy sidewalks, in parks, around apartment buildings and on hills or mountains. They are everywhere! Really, you cannot miss seeing a beautiful cherry blossom tree once you step outside.
Cherry blossom trees use their environment to survive in smart and unique ways. Like many plants, they need sunlight to make food, rain and water from the soil to drink, and air and space to help them grow. Their roots are thick and spread deep into the ground, soaking up water and nutrients. Their bark also protects them from the bad weather and bugs. In winter, the trees rest to save energy. When spring comes, the warmer weather helps the blossoms open again.
