Time to Say Farewell

It has been quite an adventure! There is no better way to reflect than to take a quick trip down memory lane. We have seen and done so much together. We traded in the dollar for the euro, navigated public transportation, bought a bike, spoke some Dutch (gezellig, goedemorgen), learned about Carnaval and Sinterklaas, explored elementary and secondary schools, shopped in new stores (Kruidvat, Albert Heijn) and interacted with Dutch teachers and students. We had experiences that were truly one-of-a-kind from dancing in a silent disco in the Rijksmuseum during Museum Night to journeying through the Royal Waiting Room at Central Station on Open Monument Day.

We also enjoyed the outdoors. We admired canals, endured rain and wind on a bike, marveled at the flat landscape and visited two National Parks filled with dunes. Don’t forget the wisents! We tried international food, such as Syrian, Indonesian, Nepalese and Greek. We also experimented with local Dutch food, including stroopwafels, kruidnoten, kaas and bitterballen. Additionally, we traveled quite a bit within the Netherlands to the beautiful cities of Utrecht, the Hague, Haarlem, Rotterdam, Giethoorn, Zandaam, Edam, Volendam and Marken. Can you believe that we also ventured outside of the country to Germany and Greece?!
