My Autobiography

Art therapy is a practice where people create pieces of art to express their feelings rather than speaking out loud about the way they are feeling. People who can't able to speak about their feelings can communicate through art. Art therapy is an option for people who are too sad or scared to talk about what is bothering them. Because my goal is to become an art therapist one day, the art that I create on my own is important for me to study because it allows me to see examples of how a person can connect their feelings and experiences into creativity.

My own art revolves around plants, animals and landscapes. A major reason I decided to study in Australia for a few months is the unique and diverse plants, animals and landscapes. In fact, ninety percent of native animals in Australis are not found anywhere else in the world! I've already encountered kangaroos, wombats, wallabies, and many other critters here!

I also chose to live in Australia because I wanted to live in a big city. After spending time in Chicago, I am used to living in a big city. I decided that my new school would have to be someplace just as big. Melbourne, the city in Australia where I will be living, provides me opportunities to explore art galleries and museums! It also is right on the coast, so the ocean is only a short trip away, which provides the views of nature that are very inspirational for my art.

I feel very lucky to be studying in Melbourne. I'm interested in how the experiences I have here will shape my art practice back in Chicago. That's all from me for now, though. Stay tuned for updates on my adventures in this beautiful country!
