Nasi, nasi, nasi!

Introduction:

Malaysia is a country with a very unique style of cuisine. Malaysian dishes are similar to the culture: a blend of several different flavors that come together to make something absolutely beautiful.

What food did I try?:

Malaysians love rice. It’s a staple of almost every meal, no breakfast, lunch or dinner is complete without it. Because of the widespread practice of rice farming throughout Malaysia, rice is very important to the economy, as well as to the typical Malaysian diet. An extremely popular Malaysian rice dish is called nasi lemak, which is usually eaten in the morning for breakfast. This dish is also known as the national dish of Malaysia. Nasi means rice in Bahasa Melayu and lemak means fat, so the loose English translation for the dish is "fat rice."

How did I feel when I tried it?:

When I first tried nasi lemak, I wasn't sure if I would like it because I’m not a big fan of anchovies. But as soon as I tasted the coconut rice, I fell in love! I now eat nasi lemak quite often in the mornings. It is absolutely delicious! The mixture of sweet and salty is just perfect, and rice in the morning gives you energy for the rest of the day!

How is the food prepared?:

Nasi lemak combines two Malaysian signature foods: rice and coconuts.
