José Carlos: From Cartagena to Mexico City

Introduction:

To learn more about daily life in Mexico, I am going to interview José Carlos Arias Amador, and he will tell us about his life in CDMX (Ciudad de Mexico, otherwise known as Mexico City!).

What is your full name?:

My name is José Carlos Arias Amador.

Where do you live? What is your house like?:

I am originally from Villahermosa, Tabasco, where I lived in a gated neighborhood close to my school. I moved to Mexico City for university and have lived here for the past eight years in a clean, modern apartment with a lot of natural light.

What is your family like?:

My dad, mom, sister and I are very close. We look out for each other. My parents immigrated from Cartagena, Colombia, to Villahermosa for their medical residency. So I grew up in Villahermosa, but I also spent most summers and holidays in Colombia.

How do you get around?:

In Tabasco, I mostly drive because when I walk I get very sweaty due to the humidity. In Mexico City, I walk and take Ubers and public transport. It stresses me out to drive in Mexico City’s traffic.
