The batter ball melts in your mouth as you chew the yummy octopus.
There is a local okonomiyaki place near where I go grocery shopping that offers seafood and cheese versions. My favorite part about okonomiyaki is that you usually fry it yourself. After you order, the restaurant gives you the mixture, and after mixing, you fry and flip it. It you get bacon with it, you fry it once then again with bacon on it. If you have it with cheese, it really depends. Sometimes you mix it in the batter, or you heat it up on the pan and then pour it onto the pancake. I've had both and they are good either way. overall, it’s a lot of fun. Once the okonomiyaki is fried, you can top it with a sauce, Japanese mayonnaise, which is sweeter than what we have in the United States, plus any additional toppings depending on the dish.
Takoyaki is made by pouring batter into a special pan, a cake pop pan works just as well, and then placing parts of the octopus and other ingredients in the center and then continuously flipping it until all sides are cooked. Once fully cooked, between half and a full dozen takoyaki is served in one dish after being drizzled with sauce and fried garlic.
Both are best eaten while hot though, so please be careful not to burn yourself! I've done that too many times.
As I mentioned, both dishes originate from Osaka, which some call the food capital of the world. Octopus is a popular seafood in Japan, where many areas get their wealth from fishing.
