All pathways have been fitted with overhanging roofs to protect people from the sun in the summer and rain during the monsoon season. Typically younger students walk or bike to classes, while older students may use motorbikes or cars. On Thursdays, UMT has declared no motorized vehicles will be allowed on campus to reduce the university’s carbon footprint (contribution to climate change). How does your school try to minimize its carbon footprint? Does your school promote any environmentally friendly practices?
I visited the Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange building in Kuala Lumpur. This building is the headquarters of the U.S. Fulbright Commission in Malaysia. It’s a beautiful building, but what makes it so special are the wonderful people it holds and the incredible opportunities that organization is able to help students and researchers realize.
Travel within Malaysia is wonderfully cheap! Flying from Kuala Terengganu to Kuala Lumpur cost 69 ringgit. In America that would mean paying $16.50 to travel from Rhode Island to New Jersey. What a deal!
