Our News

What was the best meal this week?:

The best meal I had this week was a homemade pasta with shrimp cooked in a carbonara-like sauce. Seafood is very typical here because of the proximity to the beach, and shrimp is one of the most popular types! I'm looking forward to trying moqueca here, which is a popular fish stew.

What music did I listen to this week?:

I tend to listen to music in English still, but I was just talking to someone about the Portuguese version of "Jingle Bells," which is called "Bate o Sino Pequenino" (ring the little bells in English). We had fun going through the lyrics of each version to compare the messages. They are quite different!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

In the apartment that I live in, my roommates and I do "hora da panqueca" (pancake hour) almost every night where we make pancakes with egg, protein powder, banana, and oatmeal and then top them with doce de leite (dulce de leche). We sit around the table and catch up on our days, and I always look forward to our cooking and conversations.

What did I read this week?:

I am reading a book Us Against You by Fredrik Backman, which is the sequel to Beartown. The book is set in a very small community called Beartown in Sweden and analyzes the complex lives of the residents there. Hockey is intrinsically linked to everything in Beartown, including politics, the economy and jobs.
