During the week, I focus on work, but I travel on the weekends. It takes about an hour by car to travel from Blantyre to Mount Mulanje.
So far in my trip, I have traveled to the nearby cities of Liwonde, Zomba and Mulanje. Liwonde is about a four hour drive from Blantyre, and I stayed for two nights in the game park and went on game drives to see the animals. Zomba is a beautiful town about an hour away from Blantyre, with a giant plateau that we hiked to see a waterfall.
I live very close to the university and hospital where I work, so I mainly walk. For farther distances, I hire a taxi.
Besides Mulanje, the most interesting place I visited was Zomba. The city was once the country's capital and is full of rich history. It's very different than Blantyre, which is a very industrial based city compared to Zomba. During our hike on the plateau, our guide took us to a place called Queen's View which was named after Queen Elizabeth when she visited in 1957. We had a wonderful guide who knew all about the history of Malawi and answered our many questions about Malawi and its history.
