Traveler Bio

Hi! My name is Katie McGraw, I am from Grand Rapids, Michigan and I went to college at Michigan State University (Go Green!) in East Lansing, Michigan. I love science and in college, I studied to become a medical laboratory scientist, we work in the laboratories of hospitals and help doctors understand why their patients are sick.

In the summer of 2022, I had the chance to spend a month in Malawi, which is a small country on the continent of Africa. During this trip, the other students and I explored the country and learned about how their hospitals and laboratories work compared to ours back home in the United States. Ever since I returned home from this trip, I knew that I wanted to work in different countries across the world. I hope one day to become a doctor to help people in the United States and other countries be healthy and happy.

This year, I have the exciting opportunity to travel back to Malawi with the Fulbright program, I will be spending 9 months there, learning more about the culture and a disease called malaria. I hope that the work that I do will help the doctors and nurses save more lives in Malawi!
