Lions, Elephants and Zebras, Oh My!

Introduction:

Malawi's safari parks are home to many species of animals, with the most popular including lions, giraffes, rhinos, elephants and zebras! This weekend, I had the opportunity to venture out to Liwonde National Park in Liwonde, Malawi. Our safari included two game drives, in the morning and at night, and a boat safari in the afternoon to get up close and personal with the hippos. My favorite animal to see on the safari was the elephant. I love watching them use their trunks to grab leaves and spray water.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

Guess who: This animal stands at an average of ten feet tall and weighs about five tons. It has gray, wrinkly skin, huge ears and a long trunk that can pick off leaves from trees for snacks and spray water.

If you guessed "elephant", you are correct!

How did I feel when I saw it?:

It was amazing! Seeing such a large animal up close felt slightly scary, but they are so beautiful and majestic up close. When the animals get very close to the safari cart or boat, we are instructed to be extremely still and not make any noise that would startle them.

Where does it live?:

Elephants inhabit a large variety of environments across Africa and Asia. Most commonly, they are found in savannahs, grasslands, wetlands and tropical forests.
