Chel works in the Berlin Dining Hall aboard the World Odyssey, our home at sea for Semester at Sea. He’s there every day, serving students at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Today, you’ll get to know Chel a little better and hear about his experiences working aboard our ship!
Although his full name is John Michael Villarosa, he is more commonly known as Chel (pronounced “Kel”) by those onboard the ship.
When Chel is not aboard the World Odyssey, he calls Angono in the Philippines, where he has lived his entire life, home. Some of his favorite things about living there are the delicious food, welcoming people and beautiful islands, where surfing and swimming are popular activities. With more than 7,000 islands to explore, it is easy to stay busy in the Philippines !
Back home in the Philippines, Chel’s family shares a strong connection to life at sea. His family includes his mom, brother John and father. John also works aboard the ship and has been part of the crew since 2014. His father was once the longest-serving crew member, with an incredible 34 years of service!
