My English Professor

There’s not that sort of family closeness to extended family that you would maybe get in other European countries.

How do you get around?:

Mainly by Tube, but sometimes by bus.

What types of clothing do you like to wear?:

Fairly casual clothing. It depends if I'm going to work or not, but I wear jeans a lot.

What do you like to do in your free time?:

I love watching films. I like to play music (I play guitar and sing), and I love to see friends. That’s probably what I like doing the most.

What language(s) do you speak? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

Besides English, I speak Italian, and I understand a bit of French. I usually just say "Hello."

Do you have pets?:

No, I don’t have any pets. I’d be worried about leaving them while on holiday, but other members of my family are very keen on the idea of getting a cat.

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

I’ve traveled mostly within Europe: France, Spain, Germany, Italy. Outside of Europe, I’ve been to the United States and Canada. I’ve been to Morocco and Tunisia in North Africa, and I’ve also been to Syria back in 1998 since I’m half Syrian. It was very different back then.

What do you do for work?:

I am a university lecturer here at NYU in London and at Goldsmiths College, University of London.

Is there anything else you would like to say to students in the United States?:

I think it’s great that you’re learning about other cultures, and I think we should all learn about other cultures, so just keep on doing what you’re doing!
