London has given me a lot more to get used to than I initially thought it would. Going to school in New York City made me think that I’d only have to adjust a little bit to get used to the city of London. I was wrong! I remember the very first day I got here, I took the Tube from the airport and I tried to exit the station by walking through the turnstile (just like you would in New York), but I got stuck because here in London you have to use your metro card to get in and out of the station. It’s kind of embarrassing to recall how I tried to force my way through the turnstile with all of my luggage, but now I always have my metro card handy when I have to exit. I can now proudly say I have mastered London’s transportation system!

Before I got here, I knew people drove on the left side on the road in the United Kingdom, but I thought I wouldn’t notice it much since I wouldn’t be driving. The truth is, I definitely have noticed it when I’ve almost gotten run over for looking the wrong way when crossing the street. Thankfully, on the street near the sidewalk, “Look Right” or “Look Left” is printed so that pedestrians are able to cross safely. I’ve gotten used to looking down at the ground before crossing the street.
