As a college student, I worked at different jobs that helped me use my education in my community. I enjoyed working as a mentor for young kids who wanted to learn English. We played games together, read books in English and Spanish and played educational video games. I also worked as a Peace Poetry coordinator, a job that allowed me to collect poetry from thousands of kids from kindergarten up to eighth grade for a special project. From these experiences, I’ve heard many incredible stories from children of all backgrounds. I am excited to be a part of your classroom and I can’t wait to learn more about all of you!
As a child, I never thought I would have the opportunity to be where I am today. However, last September I found out that I received a scholarship from the Fulbright program to travel to Brazil. Now I work at the Federal University of Lavras in Brazil as an English Teaching Assistant. This means that I help university students improve their English through programs about the language and American culture.
I love my work because I have the opportunity to watch my students improve their English every day. At times it can feel confusing to learn a new language, but I am happy to be here to support them. My students are incredible learners and they also teach me many things about Brazilian culture. Over the course of our journey, I want to hear from you! What do you want to learn about this amazing part of the world? What is one question you have for me as I am living in Brazi? In the weeks to come, I hope to share many incredible moments of living in this beautiful country!
