I asked my students from English Club to answer some questions about their lives here in San Miguel de Bolívar. These responses are from 10 kids between the ages of 5 and 11.
The students said they normally have fruit, milk, and toast for breakfast. Cereal is also common. Lunch is normally a soup of some kind with rice and a salad. They said they have traditional Ecuadorian foods like humitas (sort of like a tamale), tortillas, or empanadas for dinner. They love instant noodles as well.
It's worth noting that lunch is the main meal of the day, and dinner is a smaller meal eaten around 8 or 9 p.m. So, they have a larger meal around 1 PM and then a smaller meal later at night.
The kids described their houses as having two floors with bedrooms, bathrooms, a living room, a dining room, and a kitchen. Everyone was eager to share what color their house was. Some of the kids live in the rural areas of town, so they described their home as "in the fields with the animals."
