I would encourage students to do exactly the same as you are doing. To give it a try, to experience somewhere else, to live in a different city or country. To learn different cultures, to understand, to be more open. Because this is giving you knowledge, apprenticeship, experience, maturity. So I would encourage students to do that. It's a big experience.
