In the six months that I've been in Peru, I have already done so many exciting things: I helped my host family cut down the tree for christmas; I had my 23rd birthday here with my host family; I visited the largest trout farm in my department and ate a delicious fish lunch; I have climbed so many hills to see the beautiful views from above; I have gone back to Lima to visit the host family I lived with during my training, and to see the beaches; I visited Ayacucho for Carnaval and watched the beautiful parades; and most importantly, I have tried so many new and amazing peruvian dishes. I have eaten alpaca, cuy (guinea pig), sheep and many more new and delicous foods.
One of my favorite things about being here in Peru is all the activities I get to participate in to integrate into my community. I have been practicing the quena with my host dad; I participated in the New Year's tradition of dancing the local dance, called the Auquish, down the big hill near town, with all the other women and children; and I spent my summer teaching English to the children in my town from ages 6 all the way to age seventeen, in addition to many more amazing adventures.
I can't wait to continue sharing my life here in Peru with you all and hear about the rest of your school year as well!
