Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

The farthest I traveled this week was to the capital city of Junin called Huancayo. It is about an hour and a half away from the town where I live.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I have been to a few places during this journey. When I first arrived, I was in Lima, the capital of Peru. It is about 10 hours from my site by bus/car. I have also visited a city in the south called Ayacucho during their carnival. The ride is typically about nine hours ,but on my way there, a tree had fallen in the road and caused a delay, which meant I was in the bus for 14 hours!

How did I get around this week?:

The only way to get around here is using cars called colectivos which are like taxis and buses. To leave my town, I take a minivan-type car from the town plaza to the nearest city. From there I can take a bus to the capital, Huancayo. Once I am in the capital, I can get anywhere I want!

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

This past week I was busy at work, so I didn't have a lot of time to leave my town. However, I did go with my host mom to our chacra (field) to harvest corn to eat. It was super interesting to learn about how to harvest and see the whole proccess of how corn gets from the field to my plate.
