I grew up in a small town outside of New York City named Goshen. Goshen is a very scenic, peaceful place, but I always preferred the excitement of big cities. It’s no surprise that after high school, I moved to New York City and lived there until I moved to Wisconsin to go to school four years ago.
In middle school and high school in Goshen, I studied Spanish and always enjoyed studying different languages. During my last year of high school I had the opportunity to go on a trip to Spain and France with my language class. I fell in love with both of those countries. I even named the cat I got when I was in college after my favorite French philosopher! While it may seem boring to some, seeing the buildings in each of those places was my favorite part of the trip because they were very different from the buildings in New York City. I liked that trip so much that I decided one day I wanted to try living in a different country.
Although it took a long time for me to make my dream a reality, I always remembered how inspiring it was to experience different cultures. The world is a big place and people can solve a lot of problems by getting to know each other a little better.
