All of the cities and islands I am visiting here in Croatia are on the Adriatic Sea. There is a lot of marine life in the Adriatic Sea. A common but dangerous creature here in Croatia is the sea urchin. The sea urchin is an "invertebrate" (an animal without a spine) that I have seen on many beaches here.
The sea urchin is typically round and has spikes all over it. Sometimes it can be flat, but all of the sea urchins I have seen in Croatia have been round. The round part underneath the spikes is a shell. This sea urchins I have seen in Croatia have been black. However, in deeper water some sea urchins have white spikes and black shells. From what I have seen online, they are many colors and sizes but they always have spikes, so be careful when you notice them!
When I saw a sea urchin for the first time, I was a little scared. If you step on a sea urchin, you can get stabbed by one or more of its spines. The spines can be really hard to remove and sometimes people need to go to the hospital to get them removed. However, once I saw a small boy carefully pick one up, I wasn’t as scared.
