To a few of my new friends, it seemed strange that I left home so quickly and that I don’t visit with the extended members of my family often. At first I was confused as well. Why was it that it was so normal for me to leave my family? What did that mean? Yet, with time and thinking I realized that it wasn’t that I didn't have a strong relationship with my family, but rather that the relationship had been built in a different way.
Talking about these varying perspectives and habits can be strange at first, but it is so rewarding to take a moment to chat with someone and compare similarities and differences and why these things might exist. In talking about it with a friend, you may realize that there is actually not much difference between you at all, and you will be able to understand a little more about your friend, his or her life, and his or her perspective.
