Chilean Food Recommendations for Foodies

How did I feel when I tried it?:

Apart from working on my academic work with Liceo HVW, we also spoke about casual aspects of Chilean culture. One of the first things they mentioned is that, despite drawing heavily on its European background, Chilean cuisine has made itself a unique place in the global food culture. They proudly stated that the Chilean cuisine dishes features a variety of colorful, tasty and nutritious foods that will make any foodie happy. The meals are best served with local wine or drinks, and are generally made up of meat, shellfish and vegetables, depending on the location. This Emily can attest to, since she mentioned that there would always be different sides for food!

How is the food prepared?:

From the image on the right, you can see that the meal is served on a tray. Emily mentioned that her host mother would use this tray because they would eat with a lot of plates for sides. The tray was useful to carry food from the kitchen to the table. I find this quite interesting because in my household, we usually serve our individual plate from the actual pots and pans instead of having multiple plates of food to pick from.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Emily enjoyed eating natural-flavored popsicles as you can see from the image on the side. The store had a variety of flavors ranging from traditional flavors like strawberry to unique flavors like maqui, which is a Chilean super fruit. However, Chilean cuisine is mostly centered on frutas del mar, or "sea fruits". You could also call this "seafood!".
